Syed (plural Saadat) is an honorific most highly spiritual and pious title that is given to males accepted as descendants of the Islamic prophet Muhammad (PBUH) through his grandsons, Hasan ibn Ali and Husayn ibn Ali, who were the sons of his daughter Fatima Zahra and son-in-law Ali ibn Abi Talib.Daughters of male syeds are given the titles Syeda, Alawiyah, Syarifah or Sharifah.
People with the last name Naqvi are the direct descendants of the Islamic Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), through the lineage of Imam Ali Naqi a.s(9th century AD).

The descendants of Imam Ali Naqi are primarily found in the South Asian subcontinent. The earliest Naqvis migrated into Sindh in present day Pakistan. Many Naqvi's reside in the Sindh city of Karachi. The city of Bhakkhar next to Rohri was their settled area. The first Naqvi who migrated to Sindh was Syed Mahmood Makki from Mashhad, Iran moving through uzbekistan bukhara before moving to sindh. His son Syed Sadar Ul Din also became a famous saint and is buried in Sakkhar, Sindh.After few generations naqvi,s spread throughout Pakistan and India.
